First of all that had to be a ret compliment from the Principal to be asked to run again! Really, you are the one people see running the events and you must be doing awsome if you are being asked to stay on! I have the same issue but I was one a planning committee (in the begining) for graduation and ended doing the event alone. There is nothing wrong with saying "Sure BUT I need...." You know--Critter's idea! I'm doing it when I go in to talk to my Principal (whom also asked me to do next year's event!) I enjoy being involved, too but our staff forgets I'm volunteering not working at the school (a teacher wanted to know how long I had been on the pay roll!)
Rename the position "Co-Manager" and recruit event chairman for all the individual events. If no one volunteers, the event doesn't happen. Period.
Clearly, you enjoy being involved, but consider that others may be reluctant to step forward because you have been so effective. Maybe some might even say, "in control". If you pro-actively seek ways to spread around the work, you'll get new blood into the action and take some of the load off you personally.
P.S. we can only be "taken advantage of" if we let it happen....
I HAVE BEEN CO-CHAIRPERSON OF OUR PTO FOR TWO YEARS. I HAVE HAD A GREAT TIME. I HAVE MET SO MANY NEW PEOPLE, TEACHERS AND NEW FRIENDS. I HAVE A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE TEACHERS AND THE PRINCIPAL.
AT OUR LAST PTO MEETING OF THE YEAR, WE HOLD OUR ELECTIONS. NO ONE CAME FORWARD TO BECOME A CO-CHAIRPERSON. THE OTHER PERSON DID NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION BECAUSE OF JOB DEMANDS. SHE SAID SHE COULD KEEP HER POSITION IF SOMEONE ELSE COULD DO THE DAYTIME EVENTS. THIS WAS ME THIS YEAR !!! I ORGANIZED AND RAN ALMOST ALL OF THE DAY EVENTS.
I HAVE RECEIVED SUBTLE HINTS FROM THE PRINCIPAL TO SEEK RE-ELECTION.
I AM FEELING GUILTY. I REALLY ENJOY DOING THE EVENTS, BUT IT IS BECOMING A FULL TIME JOB. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THAT I AM ABLE TO REMAIN A STAY AT HOME MOM. SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE I'M BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. !!
ANY SUGGESTIONS/OPINIONS ?
THANKS
