Our Executive Board is large by most standards. But, as I've posted before, have monthly business (i.e. Board) meetings and general meetings only once each semester. So, we need a large working Board.
Ours includes:
* Officers (Pres, VP, Treas, Sec, and Parl., past pres.)
* School Reps (Principal, Vice Prin, 2 teacher reps)
* Chairs of all standing committees
* Others as appointed by the Board
Since many of our committees are chaired, our Board is usually 25-35 people.
I would look to your bylaws which may specifically state who belongs on your executive board. I have found that there is a lot of confusion about exective boards and executive committees and who can make what kind of decisions. As an example our bylaws state the executive board consists of officers of the association(elected positions) the chairmen of "standing" committees and the principal of the school, or representative appointed by him. But our bylaws go on further to state that an "executive committee" composed of officers may be made but would require a bylaw change and require a separate article. Reference to Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised, page 475 in the 1990 edition. Since it is the executive boards responsiblity to transact necessary business between regulare meetings, create standing committees, approve plans of work and such it is important to know who is involved. Decisions made by them require a majority vote. The more the merrier except when you have an emergency decision and it is difficult to get alot of people together quickly. Hope this helps. Best wishes!
Our PTA Executive Committee is composed of the PTA President, President-Elect, Administrative VP (Principal), Teacher Rep. VP, Legislative VP, Secretary and Treasurer. These people are also responsible financially. They have to sign a fiduciary responsibility agreement. We have Board of Directors consisting of the Executive Committee and the seven Commissioners. The chairs or project managers fall under one of the seven Commissioners.
We have a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, two Teacher Reps, and the Principal. Our main committees that we have on going are Skate Party Committee (it's really only me since I started them) and the Teacher Appreciation Week Committee. The Committee lists grows during the year and they are asked to report at every meeting which is monthly.
We don't at our school. But I know lots of people have boards that include the officers & the committee chair. Some even include teachers &/or principal.
