Don't give up on your parent volunteers. We actively solicited volunteers in the capacity of Team Leaders and helpers. We offered oportunities for day and night time help. We have had some super parents and our parents have logged well over 300 hours for the month of October, we are nearly 500 hours for the year (2 months of the school year). I am so impressed with the group of parents that we have, they are doing such a wonderful job. We gave each family/student a PTO form at the beginning of the year. It had a section for signing up for the PTO and offering to volunteer. We figured we would get folks volunteering this way, and it has worked to some extent. Also we offered a calendar this year which has given us a 23% membership. We are aiming for 40%, but for a Middle School we are doing quite well. We have a FundFeast coming up this Friday night and I will set up my table for the PTO once again. I am a bit like the rabid dog who won't let go. I have 100 calendars to offload!
Hi,
We are a school in transition. We are presently 3rd-6th but next year will become 6th-8th. I plan to still hang there and any suggestions on middle school PTO would be appreciated.
Hi,
This is my first year at the middle school. I was a pto member at the elementary and this year I am the fundraiser lady for the pto at the middle school. We have around 1270 kids at our school. This year during our membership drive we sent out volunteer letters to parents to fill out. It listed different activities through the year that we needed help with and opportunities to help in the office, library etc. We had about 100 parents sign up. Unfortunately our teachers have not been helping us. We were trying to get parents to help the teachers, running copies etc and I put a letter out to the teachers asking if then needed help to let me know because I had volunteers waiting. I had two teachers ask for help out of 70. Anyway, I would suggest any pto to still pursue the parent participation. We are trying to make our school a better place for everyone.
Thanks for some of the ideas. The trivia nights are fun, I'm not sure how to run them. A note on how they are run would be fun.
We have 1013 students and about 70 staff with a membership of about 200. We have also produced a calendar this year only available to PTO Members this boosted out membership by about 3%. We also gave all teachers a check for $15, and 1st year teaching teachers $50. We put it in a card with a poem and note. The teachers were thrilled that we thought of them and it encouraged them to join the PTO.
We are going to see if the calendars encourage more parents to sign up with us.
We put a volunteer form on our PTO form. This way we get folks volunteering for a number of events. We have only a few members who have not volunteered in some capacity.
