You are not alone with this. We have our fed tax number and that is about it. We are not listed as non profit, our books have not been audited and we have not done some of the other things. This is how things have always been done and we have not changed anything. We have never had insurance but the school does and all events take place at the school.
I need your assistance. I was voted PTO prez for next year and have found out that we are not non-profit, incorporated, or carry liability insurance. We have not audited books in the past or filed tax forms that I am aware of.
I can audit the books and file forms from last year (need to know which ones since not non-profit). I need to know how to become non-profit. Who do we go to for forms? Is there a cost involved?
Can I be held liable for past years, or only this one?
