Leaving office

I will still be at school for several years too, as my youngest is just in 1st grade.

The future of our schol is very sad, as it will prob. be closed within the next 3-4 years, which makes my leaving office bittersweet. I may not have another chance to be THAT involved there again.

I am moving up to be new VP of Council PTA...another way to help!

In very much the same position but I will continue to be at the school for the next two years! Next year I will not have a board position by choice. What "cured" me was going through the minutes of our PTA of the past 80 years! I realized that though I had fun and will miss being the pres. there have been at least 40 other women who came before me. I am sure we all had our own hopes and dreams for the school and the students and that change is such a good thing. As the school welcomed me as a breath of fresh air so they will their new incoming president!

Although I have not been in your shoes I have been on the other end. When I became president (ours stepped down after six years total on the board). My best advice to you is try not to fight every change the new officers may want to try even if it is not the way that you would/have done things. Your new president needs to make their own mark on the pto and by doing so it does not mean that the new way is the best or vice-versa. Try not to always give "helpful advice"...wait until they come to you to ask...and they will!! Try to be supportive...I've been told that it is like handing over your baby...but I like to think about it as if your watching your child grow up and your willing to let it spread it's wings and fly...you helped make your pto what it is now you have to trust that by the example you have set the group will do great!! Good luck and enjoy your free time:)

I was Secretary of our PTA for 2 years before becoming President for the last 2. I am having trouble 'releasing' the office to the next officer, and i just wondered if anyone else can help me deal.

Also, if anyone has any poems , etc. I could read to the new officers?
