I am running against a popular person myself but what is crazy NONE of the school's staff can stand her and will do whatever they can to make sure I'm elected. But she has ALOT of parents that like her noisy gossipy way so they know what is going on at school. In essence though we are NOT allowed to openly campain which she did last year and is doing this year. She used a parent meeting with the school board to announce her plans and remind/invite everyone to stay and vote at our PTO meeting later that evening. Hopefully she will not do that this year. I find e-mailing friends easier and faster (phone calls take to long). May the force be with you and watch for the hanging chads!!!
I agree to make calls and pass the word for yourself. As far as the person running for VP, she should do the same for herself. If you make the calls for her it will look as if you are going behind the back of the current Pres.
Of course, our elections usually end up with a lot of begging just to get someone to say they will run, once they agree, the vote is easy, LOL.

Make as many phone calls as you can. Talk to people you trust, and ask them to do the same. If your teachers have a vote, get them involved, ask them to come out and support you.
I am in a similar position, except that I am a little less known, and the person I am running against is well known, but not for what she is: lazy, backbiting, gossipy to name a few. She's always there to take the bow, but not when there's work to be done.
I am already calling everyone I know, and asking them to spread the word that I am running, and please come out in support. I am getting very favorable response.
Good Luck!
I have a question about running for the position of President and Vice President of the PTO? The current President has served over her 2 year limit (which is stated in our by-laws) but everyone has been afraid to run against her. Well I spoke up this year and decided to run. She tried to talk me out of it and ask me to take the VP position but after she gave it some thought she agreed that she would support me as President BUT she would run for VP... Here's the thing the reason the lady that is currently the VP is giving up her seat is because the president didn't do anything all year and she was stuck doing all the work. And I was told by the current VP that if she (president) takes the VP seat that there will have been no change in the PTO just that I would be stuck doing everything. So I found a very nice lady to run for the VP position and she is nervous that she won't win because she is not as known in our school as the current president running for VP. So I was wondering if anyone has every done any kind of campaign and if so what did you do. I had a meeting with the building principal the other day and he told me to campaign but didn't really give any detail on how or what I should do. I don't want to go over board and step on anyone's toes or hurt the current President's feeling.
