Hi K,
Happy to help, but I'm not really clear on your question. When you say, "they are treating us like a bank account," are you speaking on behalf of a PTO? And who are the other groups doing fundraising? Just a little unclear.
So...I have question regarding the legality or implications of school "groups" funneling money through the PTO (our only 501 (c) (3) option)
It is frustrating because I feel like they are treating us just as a bank account, but also am concerned because they may be jeopardizing our non-profit status. Groups will fundraise but have no method for accounting for the money, so it is held by the PTO. We have explained that if the PTO is "holding" this money then we are essentially facilitating that fundraiser and the money becomes subject to our already voted upon budget therefor we can't just give them money back for the needs/desires that they fundraised for.
Hopefully this makes sense. Anyone else have this issue or can point me in the direction of answers?
