Tips from Other Treasurers

I use Quicken, as do a number of others; some use QuickBooks, some use Excel, some use Finance Manager. Do you use any of these for your own personal finance? I had used Quicken before, so that was easy for me to take over from the previous treasurer.

Congrats on being elected treasurer! Sometimes the transition from one board member to another isn't ideal. But we are hear to help. We have a series of free resources on the site that can help you get up to speed.

You mention Quickbooks -- is that what the former treasurer had been using? We've heard of other groups who use it. We offer Finance Manager, which is easy-to-use software you can use to create a budget, do basic reporting and bank reconciliation. . Here's the link: www.ptotoday.com/finance-manager.

You could also download the Treasurer's Toolkit, which includes additional resources beyond what's posted on the File Exchange. That costs $49.

Also, one last thing: Please post questions here on the Message Boards or on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/ptotoday. It's great to get input from fellow treasurers at other PTOs and PTAs.

I was just elected as treasurer. The outgoing treasurer is handing over the accounts, but little else.

What do most of you use to manage the accounts? Quickbooks? The resources here? The toolkit looks to be really helpful.

I will be basically starting from scratch, so any tips help is appreciated.
