Finance Manager does have some advantages, but my impression was that it didn't have any features to help with filling out a 990EZ, which is what Doll was after.
For my use, I took the income/expense report from Quicken, exported to Excel, and shuffled the Quicken categories to fit the 990 lines. It seems like a Quicken or QuickBooks wizard could probably set up the categories so that they all have the proper tax line number associated with them. But I haven't done that.
For setting up the books and handling the financials, you might want to take a look at our Finance Manager software, which is designed for parent groups. (Full disclosure: It has an annual license fee.) Here's the info on the software: www.ptotoday.com/finance-manager
I just became the treasure, and what a mess I stepped into. This group has helped me so much, so I thank each and everyone! I am starting all over, and am in the process of obtaining our 501(c)(3) certificate. I am looking for a simple chart of accounts that can be used by any non-accounting type person to pull numbers from for the 990EZ. In other words, just the basics. We don't really do much of anything except fundraise, raffle, and individual contributions. Since I will only be treasure this one year (daughter is a senior...YAY!), I am still undecided on accounting programs. I personally use Quickbooks Pro, but I think I'm going to set up the PTO's books on something easier so that the next treasure won't have such a learning curve in the event she/he is not QB knowlegable. Going to look at the software offered here next. Hope it's just what we need. Anyone want to share a simple chart of accounts that follows the 990EZ? Appreciate you guys!!
