President Resigned, wants to Chair two committees?

11 years 9 months ago #162731 by MIDad
1) Almost certainly. Unless your bylaws set specific requirements about who can chair a committee, then pretty much anybody can do so. Committee chairs generally are appointed by the board, though, so the ex-president doesn't get to chair them unless the board appoints her.

2) Yes.

I'm back. :-) I previously wrote about our President's lack of responsibility when it came to PTO funds. The situation was addressed and, I thought, resolved.

The following Monday at our monthly PTO meeting the President resigned in the middle of the meeting stating their reason as "my board has lost trust in me." This move was a complete surprise to even the closest of their friends, the Secretary.

Later the same week it was overheard the ex-president was campaigning to run for President next year and stating they will continue to run "[their]" events this spring.

Again, our bylaws are so weak I cannot turn to them for answers and order in this chaotic situation.

My questions are:
1) Can the ex-president chair the two committees?
2) Can a board member who resigned mid-year run for office the following year?

Thanks in advance for any help.
