Teachers cannot collect PTO money

We don't have this policy, but it sounds tough!

Nonetheless, for fundraisers we have what we call cash redemption days. PTA is available in our volunteer room for 3 or 4 days that week during designated times windows, both before and after school, to collect money from the parents. This is also a great way to make sure their numbers add up. Several parents still send the fundraiser money and orders with their children, but if there is an issue we remind them of the cash redemption days.

We have the same policy in our school. It's not so much because of the reason you stated, but more "the less hands on the money" the better because we have some sticky fingers among us.

Anyway, what we've done and it's been a HUGE success is to combine fundraiser turn ins with Parent Teacher conferences. The parents *should* already be in there anyway, so we set up a table and parents turn in their fundraiser funds directly to PTO.

Any other times, the PTO president (myself), will go to the classrooms and pick up any funds; for example, t-shirt orders or box tops. I'm in there every day dropping my child off, so I just stick around for 30 minutes and see if anyone needs me before I leave.

I've never heard of this. Is it technically if they touch the money? Could there be a box in the classrooms that is PTO related where students put money and then a PTO member collects it? Does the school do any events like Pennies for Patients where the kids collect coins for the Leukemia Society? If so, how are those things handled?

Our district recently clarified rules regarding the collection of PTO money in the classroom. Teachers are now prohibited from collecting PTO money from children in the class. The reasoning is once the teacher, a district employee, handles the money it technically becomes the property of the district. I understand the reason for these rules in order to protect the teacher.

My question is how do other districts handle the collection of money for PTO fundraisers and special events knowing that the teachers can no longer collect it for us?
