These are great posts. From what I'm reading, it looks like you are not just coming up with general ideas, but identifying specific goals and specific steps to take to make them happen. That's how things get done!
We are a private school, so we need to keep our volunteers we have plus try to get new ones on board. To do that, we need new students so we are really trying to get our school better known to the community. We are trying to put an article a month in our local paper. We also participated in a community fund raising event. We did not make any money from it, but it got our name out there.
I am currently a Junior Officer on our PTO. It's been a rocky start. Organizational skills and structure is lacking with our PTO. At this point, my goal is to get things better organized and stress that communication is a VERY big part of any organization. We can't get things accomplished if no one knows what the other is doing. We can not assume that if someone is asked to do something, that they know what to do beyond that task! We have a big event coming up that has pretty much been a disaster from the beginning and we are going to try and make it as good as it can be. After this event, I would like to turn things around and make a list tasks for all of us to achieve so we can become the PTO that I know we can be.
My goal this year as PTO President was to bring in new member parents as volunteers, chairs and fundraisers. We achieved this goal. At the beginning of the school year we had a separate event for new parents to come and meet the officers, have coffee and even win a door prize. At that event we had sign up sheets for all the scheduled events for the year. This way, I was able to see that the new folks signed up for events rather than do it later. We brought in a half of dozen new parents and have kept them so far this school year.
As we will soon be wrapping up January (yikes), it seems like a good time to clarify what we want our group's goal to be for 2012. Sometimes if we write it down or share it out loud, it helps us commit more to that goal and make sure it will happen. So, how about it? Anyone interested in sharing what their PTO goal is for 2012? Sharing it could inspire others, so let's help each other out.
