I'm a member of the incoming board and we've decided to do something different (for us, anyway!) at the beginning of the school year. Traditionally, our first membership meeting is September, but the school district is starting earlier in August. Instead of a membership meeting, we're planning to have a PTA Board "Meet and Greet".
The intention is to have the entire board there in a more social setting so that parents can have the opportunity to get to know them...and each other. We're looking to boost parent involvement. It has the added bonus of cutting some time out of the first membership meeting with the "introduction of board members."
Has anyone else done anything like this? Did you have a theme? Serve food?
Pitfalls? Suggestions? Any input would be helpful.
