Any time!

So glad it turned out the way it did. The old board will get over it. Hooray for fresh starts .

Just wanted to let y'all know how it turned out. We voted to become a PTA and at the same time have 'new' elections for the board. The previous board 'forgot' to nominate the previous president and she did not nominate herself. Short version, we have a new PTA President who is interested in transparency and starting NEW.

Unfortunately the old board is still not happy.....not turning over ANYTHING and school is out next week. I'm thinking a fresh start from scratch is best!

Thanks for all the advice and letting me vent :)

Whaaat? So when you say that the executive board voted to move to a PTA you mean the OLD excec board, right? Why did they still hold the elections? Doesn't your principal understand that her actions are eroding your school community? SO sorry to hear this is how things turned out. At this point, I would say do what is most meaningful to your kids and you... like volunteering in the classroom perhaps?

Elections came and went, but not so good. We had been 'talking' about becoming a PTA. With all that has been going on, the principal assured me elections were going to be fair (after I pointed out many violations of our bylaws) and that they same night we would be voting on PTA transition.

We had the elections, none of the old exec board were on the ballot. The new nominees won uncontested. Well, the other shoe fell.....we then found out that the Exec Board voted to go to a PTA (the vote was not presented to the general membership). And, that the charter meeting would be held in three weeks. At that time there would have to be another election to 'nominate and select' officers. Oh, and by the way - the old officers would be nominating themselves for that election. So, the first election will be null and void, and they wasted everyone's time and energy.

So here we are again, in a political showdown. Sad, but it is dividing friends and parents. And for what?

Thanks for all the advice. Nothing has worked. :(.

I went to the principal because I was concerned about how elections were being handled, not following the bylaws. Specifically they were not advertising to the entire school, had not created a nominating committee and were not allowing those who wanted to run a copy of the job descriptions. The current Pres put her name down on EVERY open board position to run so as to ensure that she is on the board next year. I sent an email asking that the principal look into the fact that they were not following the bylaws and he said he would address it. I come to learn that addressing it meant the executive board, along with the principal, met behind closed doors and changed the bylaws for the election. Our bylaws stipulate that in order to change them, they need to go before the GENERAL PTC. The control of our funds is being handled by a small group of women who are repeatedly voting to exclude the general ptc. And the principal is either does not care, or being duped. I feel helpless.

The only hope is 'elections' are being held tomorow night, and the one running in opposition to the president is a strong advocate for making things right. Fingers crossed!!!
