I like the acronym of SHiP. We chose to change our name this year in order to make parents aware that we are a changing group. We moved away from the term Parent Club to Parent Association as club feels optional and association feels like they already belong as part of being with the school. We have really changed our dynamic already by communicating throughout the summer. Our number of volunteers has tripled ad we seem to have a renewed spirit. I suggest you find something catchy and easy to remember. We are a Catholic High School so we used the school acronym SPX along with PA so it is SPXPA and we created a tag line that goes on most things with our logo that is "have spirit. be involved." Good Luck!
Consider whether a fun new name and acronym will be recognized for what it is. There's a reason most groups are called PTO or PTA: Parents, teachers and administrators know what it is.
Don't know that it's a great idea, but we're trying "School and Home Partnership" or SHP. We're calling it the SHiP for short, so I guess if we had been really clever we could have actually named it "School and Home in Partnership."
Our school has not had an organized parent group for several years and is now in the process of building a brand new one. Our focus is promoting school and family unity though family events and activities. Looking for fun, fresh name ideas (and acronyms) for our group, any great ideas out there???
