Sounds like the name change would make sense since it would more accurately reflect what your group is doing. Can't think of any cons - the important thing is to promote the good work your group is doing and keep all the families in the loop.

PTSO vs PTO was created by Nancy
Our PTSO is planning to re-organize for a number of reasons. We serve Pre-k to 5 grade. The question came up if we should consider changing the name to a PTO and drop the 'student'. We do not have student involvement in meetings and our student volunteers are from the high school and not the grades that we serve. I welcome input on pros & cons of this change. I am new to PTSO and want to ensure we make informed decisions moving forward. Thanks.
