Just hearing this is so upsetting! I am totally new to the PTO this year and this exactly what I dread. It's disheartening to hear that people get so angry and let it be no known in front of the children. It puts a bad taste in the mouth.

I've met some wonderful parents and teachers but I've also met some loud, mean people also.

Wow, I am sorry to hear that this happened to you! This is my first year on the PTO Board and I am still reeling a bit at how much work goes into it and how little recognition you get for the time and effort that you put in.

I think that you should sit down and write down all of the things you have done for the school and the TEACHERS over the years and bring that to the table as well.

I don't blame you for feeling hurt and angry. I think anyone would. I wish you the best in your meeting.

Unfortunately, the principal has taken the side of the teacher. It could have been a learning experience but it has turned into a CYA. The principal told the teacher I want it in her FILE. I thought any conversations between us would be personal. My mistake again.. The incident (that started all of this) did not require a fall guy, it could have been handled with a phone call. Now there has been policy changes and I do not feel comfortable going into the school I have been on the PTO board for 6 years and involved for 7. PTO HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS AND I AM REMINDING MYSELF EVERYDAY.. because I do not want to help this building or get them anything. It has become a hostile environment. When the teacher was yelling at me she told me "all of the teachers are mad at you and will NEVER buy anything from you again" I have done a lot for this school system and feel very unappreciated and stabbed in the back.

A meeting with the teacher and the principal is a must. Each side needs to voice their concerns and a replay of what occurred. A plan needs to be put in place for this to be resolved. If you are not satisified your next step is to go the principals boss (superintendent).

Once you have your meeting with the superintendent expect a follow up letter detailing what has occurred to date.

If you do not receive adequate results from that meeting then your next step is to the school board.

A chain of command must be followed by meeting with the teacher first, then their boss, then their boss before any complaints reach the school board.

If you go directly to the school board most boards will ask you if you followed the above procedure for conflict resolution and if not please do so and then get back to them on the results.

A lawyer isn't necessary at this point. A teacher usually brings in a union rep as a way to insure that no conflicts occur regarding the contract. Good luck!

I was dropping off stuff for my sons Christmas party and I was verbally attacked in the hall in front of a friend, by a teacher that had NOTHING to do with the situation. The principal took the side of the teacher, we have a meeting to put the incident in the teachers permanent file. Which the principal warned her is what I wanted... the teacher can have a union rep. I am taking my husband and my witness..MY question is should I take a lawyer and where can I find information. The teacher did the same thing last year to me. Not going to take it this year.. What can I do?

Marie, Personally, I think what was done to you was very unprofessional, especially when it was done in front of a student, which is double unprofessional! The principal should get involved since it was on the school grounds. This happened to me almost 10 yrs. ago at a former job so I know how it feels.
