Our PTO did a "Spare A Dollar to Make Germs Holler" campaign. We asked the students to ask family and friends if they could donate $1 so we could purchase Hand Sanitizer. We raised over $300 doing this and bought 30 of the large hand sanitizer pumps and then 63 smaller alcohol free ones. All the parents liked this as they didn't have to purchase individual ones.
No, we're leaving that up to the school district and the principal. If he asked for something we'd probably help out, but it isn't our place to get involved unless requested.
Our PTSO sent out a flyer to parents asking for their help in keeping flu and germs at bay. We requested that each family send in antibacterial wipes for gel so we can outfit each classroom, lobby, gym and library with these supplies. Given all the stuff in the media we got a good response. I was also thinking it would be fun for us to sponsor a poster contest for the kids-- have them come up with a slogan or drawing about how kids can stay healthy.
Is your parent group doing anything to help combat H1N1? I have heard of some schools/PTO's buying antibacterial wipes for the lobby, etc. Interested in hearing what role groups are playing...
