If you're not allowed within the school, maybe it will be permitted to be outside.

Our principal suggested that we have a bake sale on election day...... and it's already being planned. We will have to contact the city clerk to see if we can do this!!

I'd contact the official that run the voting locations and ask them. I think that any sales activity / donation request related to the political campaigning is prohibited within X number of feet. But I thought that was all under the campaigning portion, not general.

If is true and there's a distance requirement, it's probably 100 feet from the entrance. So you'd have to see if there's any location viable that meets the requirements but would have enough foot traffic to be worthwhile.

Other groups have posted before that they've done this. However rules may vary by state or things may have changed. I would definitely check it from the appropriate officials. PTOs are always being told this or that is against the rules or violates policy or illegal - often by well intentioned administrators. Sometimes the information is correct, but other times it's not.

Good luck.

There are so many things that can't be done in and around a voting site....candidate signs have to be several hundred feet away, party volunteers can't talk to voters (make one last-ditch effort to sway the vote) on the premises, etc. Regarding a bake sale, even a bi-partisan one ;), call your County Recorder to find out for certain if it would be allowed.

Wasn't sure where to post this....
Wanted to find out if anyone knows if it is legal to sell baked goods at a school during an election.
Our school is used during elections... we thought we might be able to set up tables and have a bake sale the day of the elections but not sure if we are breaking any legal issues... anyone know or have any suggestions on this...
I know another school in our district was looking into this...
Principal said NO it was illegal... is this true?
Thanks for any help on this!
