Our by-laws show VP duties as covering and helping the President in their duties-- so it's not the end of the world to start off not having one--
Announce at your 1st meeting that you have a position that has opened on the board, explain the role and let anyone that might be interested, come see you after the meeting-- our by-laws state at when this happens, the president can appoint someone to that position, with the boards vote-- keep plugging away with your normal business even if no one steps up right away-- good luck!
Whenever there is a question of this sort most os us will automatically respond by asking what your Bylaws indicate, if you have Bylaws, etc...
Assuming that you don't have Bylaws, or they don't have any information on this topic, my best recomendation would be to send out an e-mail to the already active members explaining the situation, the role of the V.P. and ask if anyone would be willing to take on this position.
Next would be to bring it up at the next meeting, again explaining the role and seeing if anyone is willing.
I would not try to push a new member into the role as it might turn them away.
At the same time, I've been President for two years now and have not had a V.P. all this time. Just means that the Treasurer needs to cover in the unlikely case of my absence.
:eek:AHHHH! I need some help my elected VP has stepped down and school has just started. What is the proper procedure for finding another VP and quick? This is my first year and I can't seem to find any info. on the subject.
