Thank you, Tim. I found that thread very helpful. It sounds like we are on the right track as we only carry forward enough money to plan our early events.
I am the Assistant Treasurer of an elementary school PTO and we are unsure if there is a legal limit to how much money we can carry over each year. Our past president seems pretty insistent that there is a limit but she can't find any documentation of that rule. I contacted PTO Today and they said if we have a limit it should be in our bylaws. Well, our bylaws don't have a limit listed.
My question is....do other boards have limits as to how much money they can carry over year-to-year? If so, how is that determined -- a percentage? A cap?
Any guidance that anyone can provide would be most helpful.
