We send out a note to all parents and ask for a head room parent and a co-room parent for each classroom-- they are in charge of the 3 parties that go on in their classrooms for the year--Halloween Chrsitmas party and Valentine ice cream party.
They also are in charge of a teacher birthday treat for their classroom.
Ans the teacher might call upon them to help out of something else.
The party duties are: they send home reminders of what each parent signed up to bring to the party-- they come in the day of the party-- set up and run the party in their classroom, they also come in on the teachers birthday with a treat-- no gift- a card that the kids can sign is sufficient... has worked out great-- always plenty of volunteers for this.
I can post what our sign up sheets look like, plus the party snack sheets that are put out during open house for parents to sign up on.
I would love some more info on the Room Parent topic - what are the duties your room parents is asked to do? I know at our school we do not have such people in place but for next year I would like to have a parent within each classroom who could add insight / volunteer and just help out when things like teacher appreciation & santa shop come up.
We don't have a contract-- but we have a room parent meeting and explain all that is expected of the room parents and answer any questions anyone has about what is expected of them...
Does anyone use a room parent contract? We have had some issues this year with room parents not fulling the duties explained to them at the beginning of the year. Some members of our PTO board thought if we started using a "contact" that had to be sign at the beginning of the year, room parents would have a clear outline of what their duties are and what is expected. Any suggestions, tips, or contact copies would be greatly appreciated.
