The procedure would be what is outlined in your by-laws. I know in our by-laws the executive committee meets, makes a motion to the full board which then requires a majority approval. After that approval the vote is then passed on to the full membership for a majority vote. If that happens the president can be removed.

I am new to the board. I have been on our PTO for 3 years now as Vice President and I need advice. Our current President has not, in a nutshell, done her job at all this year. She has one more year in her term and the rest of our executive committee is going to have a "special meeting" to have her removed. What is the procedure that we need to follow for that meeting?
The bottom line is; you have to go by your set by-laws in how you vote. If your by-laws state the same as you have voted inpast...you need to do the same, regardless of intimidation factor. It seems to me you should try to nominate others to fill this position and then vote in ballot fashion. You really can't get around this unless your bylaws do not state method of voting or you go to formal measures to change your bylaws stating you ballot vote from now on which is also a process that your bylaws should state in how to do.

about "not" voting for her with the show of hands technique(she is from the area and her family name has a lot of pull in the town)...
I have had over 20 people (combination of parents and teachers) request for the ballot method of voting even though we only have one person "running" for each of our positions. They want to "NOT" vote for her without having
to go through the visible hand holding up method.
I have spoken to our school prinicipal about having ballots, and she is not sure it is the right thing to do. She is concerned it might create turmoil by doing so. But in my honest opinion, the turmoil is already there for this many people to have contacted me and requested having ballots.
I am leaning very much to having the ballots, but I still would like any and all feedback from experienced PTO parents. :confused:
According to our bylaws, if one person is nominated, we just do a show of hands to approve. If there are more than one nominee, it is done with a ballot. Unfortunately, this has only happened once in the 5 years I have been around.

question (or questions).... what is your method for taking votes at your PTO elections? Do you simply raise hands? Do you have ballots? If parents are requesting ballots, but it usually was done by raising hands - do you honor the request or do you stick with "tradition"??? :eek:
