President No-More....But.....

Hi Michael, how are you? I have a few questions for you and I'm hoping you can help me. I understand you were PTO President for your local school. My first question is : If a PTO President delegates jobs for "volunteers" to perform, such as handling Goodie Sales, cleaning up the PTO Room, etc. does the PTO President have the responsibility of staying in the PTO Room with "volunteers", (NOT OTHER PTO OFFICERS) and assisting in these jobs or is the President allowed to run around the shool "visiting" with teachers while the "volunteers" do her job?
My second question is When there are "volunteers" doing jobs delegated and another "volunteer" comes in and trys to take over (she was asked to be PTO President next school year, 2007-2008) when she's never really there to help with the hard work, how can we tell her without hurting her feelings that we've got everything under control and her trying to take over only slows things down for us and it takes that much longer to fix her mistakes and get the job done on time?
Please let me know what you think.
Thank you,

Hey Michael--good to see you. Good to take a breather. I am pres again this year but am stepping back and actually think things are going very well. I can tell though that we need some new ideas and energy and stepping back once in a while is a great way to accomplish that. I also smile when I think of the efforts of all the subworkers. Each of them does so much tomake their events come together and only stepping back gives you a change to really appreciate that.

Anyhow--next year I'll do a posting like yours :)....d

Hello all,

It has truly been awhile. For those that do not know, I was PTO president for my kid's school, for the past 4 years. I stepped down as it became like a second job.

I really took a back seat to take a little breather. Some parents would say, "Hey we do not see you much anymore." "Where have you been?" etc.

Those that have stepped in realize what it takes now!! Needless to say I am the proud webmaster of our new site theblakeschoolplantation.com (almost done!), Handling all the entries for our Taylor Yearbook online, and now took on the Donation Chair! Don't I ever learn??

Those of you that need anything do not hesitate to ask. These boards have been a great learning experience. I am willing to share what I have learned, from day to day ops, to putting together fundraisers and all that is PTO. We were a PTA 5 yrs ago. Now we are a strong PTO in out community, for our students and our school.

How can I serve you.....
