Thank you all, I contacted our county PTA and was able to get the info I needed. Who knew an EIN and a 501 (c) 3 number were one and the same? lol

Your group's determination letter has a summary of info in the top right (ours does, anyway). We just present a copy of our determination letter.

That's all the proof and info they'd need.

If you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down. <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>

Some of the companies I've contacted for our silent auction have said they will donate if I can supply our 501 (c) 3 number.

I don't know of any 501(c)(3) number. Your formal identifier with the IRS is your EIN.

They do send you a "determination letter" which is your official documentation of 501(c)(3) status.

What is it you need this number for?

I am doing fundraising this year and I've had to ferret out certain information that past boards either haven't used or have misplaced, because it wasn't passed on to us. I've found our PTA Tax Exempt number (instead of just using the school's), and the EIN #, but now I need our 501 (c) 3 # and I don't know who to contact. Our school's accountant suggested contacting the School Board but I'm wondering if the county PTA would be more likely to have this information?
Finding out the EIN # took me a long time, being transferred from one person to another until I finally got a guy that knew exactly what I was talking about and pulled it up almost immediately; I'm hoping to avoid wasting so much time this time by contacting the correct person to begin with. Thanks!
