i am assuming there is nothing libelous in the content, or the district would step in and handle it.
maybe take thier lead and just ignore it all....the more yuo talk about it, the more people will visit the site out of curiosity, and attention is precisely what they probably want. so, dont play into that.
by the way, very few people even surf our school website, so even fewer would be liable to inadvertently get onto a .com instead of a .org
so at our school at least, there would be very little risk at all of anyone getting many hits in this manner and it wouldnt be of much concern. and if your school is super electronic info oriented, people are also savvy about things like web info and believeablity....after all, its not linked to the district website, is it..if its just a standalone site it doesnt have as much credibility right there.
If the district will not take any steps to find out anything about the website or to have it taken down, then all your memos, newsletters and advertising in the school should have the correct website clearly indicated. Make sure it is not in small print; but boldly printed. You may even want to mention somthing like; To avoid confusion, please visit the offical website of the xxxx PTO at ___________.org Provide links from all online materials so that parents click right into your website as well. Suggest that they save your website as one of their favorites.
Hopefully, after a while, the person will just give it up.
I think if I were President, I would have a t shirt made up that simply said .org I think it would send a clear message!
Doing it for my one and only ~~ my son!

I have looked at the website, it looks very nice. until you start reading.
our president has emailed the owner and had some long conversaions with them. (that is were I know that they don't have good intentions)
They paid a place to hide who they are you can't track down the ip because it runs through a paid ip. so you get something by proxy when we have looked it up.
Right now our district has said that we are leaving it alone and not doing anything yet.
I am just botheres because I have worked so hard and now our reputation is being damaged, because of someone spreading untruths. btw our website is *****.org the fake one is *****.com so it is really easy to get the false information.
I agree just because it was brought to someones attention means absolutely nothing -- has the president or all the board been asked about this website?
even though you (and the website register is anonymous (you both really arent your IP is logged, the web is logged thru whois)
As posted above get more facts; saying someone has bad intentions is cyberlibel (if not worse) if you have no concrete evidence, facts, knowledge or statements (Cyberlibel is a catchphrase for defamation that takes place through the internet, either on messageboards, email , blogs, chatrooms, personal websites, or other published articles)
You know absolutely nothing about who made/ registered the site and are saying this person has bad intentions yet have no proof, not good IMHO

'it was brought to my attention' - verify the claim
'this person does not have good intentions' - if their identity is anonymous, do you maybe know the identity by another means?
check out the website yourself, get your FACTS in order, bring them to the prinicpal, who in turn should maybe hand it over to his boss or the district attorney and let them handle it.
nothing is anonymous, everything can be traced. the district should be able to solve this issue for you. after all, if they are using school mascot and other identifying terms, it IS the affair of the district, and NOT a parent group matter.

HI there-
Does this Website have a Contact Form or Contact Email? If so, you may want to start with a "Cease & Desist" letter, stating that the Use of Logos and the website in such a manner to defame the organization will not be tolerated, and so forth...Imply that legal action will be taken if it not taken care of in 24 Hrs...
This may be enough to get the ball rolling and stop this ridiculous actions by someone who is not hurting the School Community as a whole...
You can even send a "Cease & Desist" letter to the hosting company stating that such and such website is acting in an unlawful manner by the Use of the Organizations Logo without consent and the unjust defamation of the organization. Depending on the Hosting company itself, they may cancel their account in fear of lawsuits brought against them. I'm not sure if any of this would hold up in court without and actual Letter from an attorney (which could get quite costly) - but definitely worth a start to see what happens!
