I haven't heard of this new law. I know they have something in our town for volunteer coaches and at churches, but heard nothing related to schools. When did this law come into effect?
To my knowledge, nothing has been sent to any of our PTO's about this from our Board of Education.
NJ pasted a law in May stating schools that are under the supervision of the Department of Education requires a criminal history check for an unpaid volunteer. We are in the process of contacting anyone who is interested in volunteering next school year to get fingerprinted. Our school district is having the fingerprinting company come to our school in mid-July. It takes 45days to get approval.
What are other schools doing in NJ to abide by this law? Has any other state done this?
