these issues are best dealt with one on one AS A PARENT with prinicpal, or super, or boe, BUT oftentimes the districts hands are tied on account of tenure system, or the teachers union.
if all else fails, and you have serious valid evidence, you can take your concerns to the state board of ed. it remains confidential.
they will come down and do their own investigation, if in fact its serious enough and justified.
good luck. bad teahcers should not be tolerated but they have rights too, and some have tenure system behind them, and some are unionized, and its oftentimes immpoossible to get rid of a bad apple
I personally don't think it is the PTO's place to get involved in issues like this. Our PTO has no say whatsoever regarding hiring or firing anyone. As a parent, however, I would certainly express my concerns to the principal of the school and also the school board.
Should the PTO get involved when there is a groundswell of discontent amongst the parents regarding the particular placement of a teacher (with a bad reputation as "mean," "demoralizing," etc.) as an elementary school homeroom teacher? What is the role of the PTO when there is a "hot" issue like this? Should they take a stand one way or the other or stay out of it? I am slated to be the PTO president in another year and I want to do the right thing.
