usually the hiring of any school staff member has to go through the school board, the superintendent will recommend who they think is the right choice, from there the board needs to vote on that and can go against the superintendent's request. Usually, the superintendent hires the principal, the boe hires the superintendent and the parents vote in the boe members.
Parents dont normally have direct influence in hiring/firing of staff in public school system.
Ditto to what the previous poster noted, that the PTO cannot have a principal fired. The BOE does that and there are also contracts and normally a lawyer involved. So it would seem to me by what you said that his contract is up and they will not be renewing it and this is why he is there till the end of the school year.
Okay as for these women at your meeting...YOU ARE IN CHARGE! Take control of the meeting and stop letting them carry on and fight. Your #1 goal has to be maintaining the integrity of your group. Stop letting them turn it into a 3 ring circus for their agenda
I am a regular user but logged out so that I can answer this question. I am sort of in the process of having our principal removed. Bottom line is as much as you think a PTO can have this power they can't. It may seem that they got your principal fired but chances are there have been numerous complaints to your district head, from teachers and staff. You just may not know about it and will probably never know about it. There needs to be alot more to it.
I have heard complaints about our principal and went to the superintendent, laid it on the line that things are not quite okay. He met with our principal and I still am not sure that she thinks she is doing anything wrong, but when the staff is complaining there is something wrong, she isnt listening! "Regular" parents aren't aware of how unhappy the staff is and I keep quiet knowing what is going down.
I like our principal ALOT however this isn't a personal issue, and it shouldn't be with you. Your principal can be the nicest person but if they aren't effective then those personal feelings need to be put aside and the best interest of your students need to come first.
I told our principal that I talked to the Superintendent, told her that I would petition for her removal if things didn't get better, she was stunned but I have seen her trying a bit harder and that is all we ask. So before you get so upset because these parents are involved ask yourself was is the best thing for the students and staff. It may be hard to answer, it was in my case but being a "friend" doesn't cut it when it comes to my child's school.
Districts often write great letters when it fits their own desires. Maybe there are problems larger than you aware of, and your issues are just the tip of the iceberg.
Your point person really is the district office,and if they are disengaged like it sounds they might be, then next stop is the school board.Good Luck to you!
We would like to know also. The District said if she resigns that they will write a great letter of recomendation. They gave her petty stuff, dosen't call parents back soon enough, dosen't have a good open door policy for the parents to walk right in and see her. Petty minor crap that all together you would think that maybe they would just let her know that improvement is needed. The school admin has only been in our school two times this whole year - they are totally relying on hearsay.
