Chairmen kept great folders and passed them on each year. Everyone helped each other. The other three officers kept the lines of communication open and kept their eyes on the committees.

I think it worked for us because we had a strong, well balanced team: Working and stay at home parents, new and seasoned members, those willing to learn from those willing to teach and ultimately a bunch of really hard workers committed to being the best. If you have a strong team and you're all willing to rally around the new president then your team will succeed.

I agree with CC - the PTA's and PTO's I've been involved in in the last 15 yrs have had a bout a 50-50 split on at-home to fulltime job presidents- I has to be delegated and a good support team in place regardless of wehter the person has a full-time job or not

Yeah, I know what you mean.... :)

That's one good example, though, of how a weak support structure can cause failure. One person shouldn't have such a huge impact on the group that they cease to function without them.

Unregistered, I mean no disrespect. I don't know your whole story and don't mean to spotlight you as a bad example. I'm just using your statement to validate the "make sure the whole team is strong and can all work together to pick up slack here and there" that other posters are advising.

This is what I was thinking, but I didn't want to hijack my own thread. ;)

Wow! Where is your Vice President and the rest of your team? The president is just one person and should not be making or breaking your team. For her to drop the ball is irresponsible and absolutely her fault. But you have a Vice President for a reason and this person should be stepping up to lead the team.

She took on the responsibility of president before she had a job and then totally dropped the ball on us. We haven't had a meeting in 3 months, all the projected projects have fallen trough and there is absolutly NO communication with any of us. So we are all walking around not knowing what is going on because she wasn't even kind enough to sit those of us that are involved parents down and tell us she can no longer handle the responsibility and ask if one of us would like to take over and prep us with her proposed plans for the year. What a joke!

OK, when I show my friend this thread, I'm deleting this post first. LOL

Thanks for helping and being honest. That sort of thing is what she's afraid of, though I really do not think that would happen with us.
