oops...they won't approve of being on board only and NOT executive committee.

Personally I have no problem with them bing on the board except they spend money without boards concent then expect to be reimbursed. Since our Vice-President resigned the parent reps out number the officers. Right now they don't really seem to have the best interest of the PTO or children at heart. I don't think it fair money is spent without board's OK. This is taking away from the kids. They raise 90% of money and these ladies are going through it like a hot knife in butter.

I did go to a school board member as I was concerned that they OKed to reimburse two parent reps $376.52. Our by-laws state that the board can spend up to $300 in case of emergency without going before the membership. These reimbursements put the Jr. High in the red $76.50.

The school board member told me I should contact the State PTA president or a district PTA presdient. They have both stated that the parent reps for the schools should be on the board but not the executive committee. The treasurer's name along with mine are the checks. They also said no matter, if the voted to reimburse we had to sign the checks because it was put before a vote and passed. Just trying to do the right thing. They are only on the exceutive because of a typo in the by-laws. The officers are afraid if it has to go before the executive committee for approval before it goes to membership, they won't approve being on board only and executive committee.

Vicki-I'm not sure. I would think if you are district wide it makes sense to have a rep be part of the EBoard. Then do you have "general" membership meetings as well? If so then I think you're in line. If not then perhaps your group sees the school reps as the general membership. I guess if it is not addressed then you guys should decide how to run it. Sorry I couldn't be more help....d

I am so new to all this. are only officers on the Executive Board? Our PTO is a district PTO....talk about a lot of work. Each school had their own parent rep. Are they on the PTO board only or are they on the Executive Board?

By-laws give duties of Executive Boad and they have no duties listed but are at all the Executive Board meetings.

As a new President I don't think they are suppose to be these meetings only the board meetings.

Can anyone help me here?

Amend the bylaws at the next general meeting then follow them to have her dismissed. She can stay 'the VP' in name until you do that. Then certainly DON'T give her anything else to do. That would be crazy. Go about your business as a group until you can have her removed based on the new bylaw you write.

:confused: I am a new President of an Elementary School PTO that has for several year has its issues with participation, both in the PTO involvement and parent participation. The PTO also has a new VP, that I have come to find out, has been trying to get on the board for four years, but previous members were always able to fill the vacancies, prior to electing her. Now that she is on the Board, she does not show up when scheduled to, i.e., set-up of the fall Book Fair, Fall Portraits, distribution of the fall fundraiser, etc. Our Book fair lost a full day of sales because she was a "no-show" when she was schelued to work and doesn't have the courtesy to call either myself or the treasurer to advise us she will not be showing up, in order for us to make alternate arrangements. When asked to do simple tasks, she becomes overwhelmed, stating "she just isn't good at those types of things and would rather cut box tops for education". When confronted with these and several other issues, on several occsions, she becomes unprofessional, (talking about the other members behind their backs to staff members), uses profanity and calls board members "control freaks". We don't bother to explain to her that we have to be "control freaks" becasue she can't handle and/or complete the simplest of tasks. The Principal,(whom has other serious issues of inpropriety with her) and our Treasurer are completely on board in wanting her removed from the PTO as soon as possible. I informed her verbally, in the presence of the Principal that she was removed for the above reasons. However, she refuses to step down from the position on her own accourd. Our by-laws do not have a stipulation for the removal of an officer or what process should occur to do such. Please any suggestions and/or information would be appreciated. This woman dosn't understand that this is about the children, for the children and geared at parent/guardian involvment. Short of holding a Special Meeting to vote her off the Board, I don't know what else to do!
