Request for spending Proposals

15K not much? That's a whole year at a few school we've had our kids at. (K-5) Must be nice to be rolling in $$$

Your board needs to sit an figure out what they school/ childrens needs are. What are your vision and mission statement- what are the school's goals, inside and outside the classroom, what programs or activities need to be run or supplied. Ask for input but I wouldnt send out a request for $$ form till the membership picked a majority of items to spend it on first

There's also nothing illegal about rolling funds over from year to year. We've always tried to spend most (what's the point in raising it if it not helping the students)

For a PreK-8 building (of which I am a PTO Leader) $15K doesn't sound all that much. I'm sure you have a fall fund raiser planned, but don't be so quick to give it all away. You might find that you need it for your budget. Also, depending on what your budget is, you should have an amount set aside for emergency happenings. I know that over the summer we can spend up to $5K in fees and reservations for field trips, tickets and residency experiences.

It might look like a lot, but all it takes is one bad turn and you'll be wishing for that back.

I wouldn't send out a form. Talk to the principal, s/he will have ideas enough to account for $15K. If you are independent group you don't write anything to the school board. This money is the money that your parents made and it soley the purpose of your board and your members to decide how this is to be used.

We are lucky enough to have a trust fund which has provided us with around $7K the last two years for teacher grants. We have a two page grant application form I can share.

AS a new PTL President at a private school for grades PreK-8th, I have the unusual situation where PTL money has not been adequately spent over the last few years. The board finds itself in the unique position of being able to direct spending of up to $15,000. The problem is communication. I need to write a notice to the Pricipal, School Board and Ancillary School Groups requesting expense proposals in writing. As PTL, we are not always aware of the needs of the many different groups in our school. Does anyone have a template or letter that they use for this purpose? Needs must meet two criteria: they must benefit the majority of our students and they must have a long-term benefit to the school. Any ideas????
