and i got one from the superintendent - only an ink test convinced me it was the real thing and not some preprinted/mass mailed generic thingamjig! how nice indeed to be recognized once in a great great while.

I just wanted to share what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a thank you card!
Today I received a hand written note from the principal of my son's new school. In it he did three things:
1. Thanked me for a donation to their general fund and assured me that it would be used responsibly.
2. Mentioned that he's spoken with my son (mentioned him by name even!) in the halls and sees that he's making friends and seems to be enjoying his drama class.
3. Ended by telling me, again, that I can call him directly if I ever need anything at all.
Frankly, I was blown away. This man is the leader of a 600 student/50 staff school and he still took the time to hand write a note to me. It had three different effects on me:
1. Makes me want to give even more to upcoming fundraisers.
2. Assures me that my son is in good hands during the day.
3. Makes me want to call him and ask what I can do for the school.
As we parent group members slog through our jam packed schedules, overwhelming obligations and difficult challenges, only to have to then sit down and write thank you notes too, it's good to get a reminder that those notes are probably the single most important thing we do.
Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."
