What does your hospitality committee do?

Our hospitality coordinator is in charge of our receptions. She contacts the people who signed up to provide cookies and punch ingredients, checks to make sure we have enough supplies and staffs the events. She also writes thank you notes to those people who helped out.

We have a separate committee for our end-of-year staff luncheon and teacher appreciation.

Our hospitality committee provides refreshments for PTA meetings and events. They also provide a phone tree to have parents bake items for events such as the cake walk, bake sales, etc.

We actually call our position the Membership/Hospitality Chair.

We can't seem to fill it. :(

We'd have them greeting and feeding at meetings, including coming up with a theme if they are so inclined, and getting people signed in and name-tagged.

They'd also be involved in other events where refreshments are involved for volunteers (landscaping days for us).

Our plan also has them tracking the volunteer hours, which is mostly data entry and making sure the tracking forms are at the events. Currently, the President does this stuff, and quite minimally, I might add.

I think a good person or group in this role could really affect the way a group is perceived. This is an area that, with a little extra attention, can make a big difference.

You could keep their description general and let them run with it.

If your board thinks it is worth it, you could give them a small budget.

If you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down. <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>

We have a hospitality committee in our group...they handle refreshments for open house, kindergarten round-up, assembly people (i.e. provide lunch), and they handle the spring teacher luncheon. We did away with refreshments at membership meetings, as we wish for as much money as possible to go directly to the kids....

In an effort to increase parent involvement this year, we created a bunch of new committees, including hospitality. Well, now we actually have people signed up and I am a little uncertain of what exactly a hospitality committee would do, other than the staff appreciation luncheon we have in the spring. I guess providing food at meetings could be one job for them, but is it food they cooked at home, like cookies, or food they purchase using PTO funds (we are a low income school and have a very small budget)? What do the rest of you typically have your hospitality committee do?
