We pay for the school copier lease as part of the funds we raise for the school, so we do use the copier. We always provide our own paper (white or colored). If you can afford it, you probably should use your own paper and pay a nominal amount to the school for copies. It's nice to have a "hands-off" relationship so people don't accuse you of taking money away from the kids.
We use the school's paper and copiers. I, too, felt bad about it but when I approached the principal about buying our own paper, I was told that it was all for the same purpose and the money we make benefits the school.
I think the question is a valid one, and shows a PTOer who cares, and thinks about his her parent body/supporters, and the ethical side of things, being a non profit etc.
The IRS doesnt care if its OK just cuz the BOE and school profits from the work of that PTO, all they care about is that the rules of the IRS game are adhered to, in letter.
The poster seemed more concerned about that angle of it. GOOD FOR HIM/HER!! we need more PTOers like that. Thinking of the taxpayer. the parents, and ethics of doing PTO business. How refreshing to hear a financial type question with such a good bent to it. Rare on these boards, sad to read.
So I say kudos to that post-er. He/she has the right stuff for the job.
We do not pay for anything and can use any office supplies we need. I personally would have a big issue with having to pay for paper or copying. The bottom line is that what we do, we do for the school and the kids and we give them the things the BOE and school cannot afford to pay for.
We pay for a copier and paper. I just feel better about it and we have the ability too through ads that we sell on our newsletter so it works out fine. d
We use the schools copier but we supply our own paper no matter what covers, our budget line is $250.00 for the year...we send alot out! I am not one to think it is okay that pto's are able to use school supplies freely.
