help with budget for next year

Would anyone be willing to send me a copy of their budget? I am the new president of a brand new school and we are having trouble determining how much we are supposed to give to each area- academics, social, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Seems like we spent alot on our teachers (lunches/teacher appreciation week/reimbursements) last year. We appreciate our teachers, but I feel we need to spend more on our students. What type of things do you include in your budget?

We too are divided about carry over. We came to an agreement based on the fact that we only have one fundraiser and it is in the beginning of the year. The students hold a 'Nature Walk' in the month of Sept. and that creates all our funds ($20,000) for the year. We agreed to carry over enough funds ($8000) to not cut any programs (field trips, assemblies, etc) until we could hold a alternative fundraiser if the nature walk does not work out. We do our best to spend as much of the earned money each year with the philosophy, "that the kids who earned it should benefit from it." So far this has worked for us

This was our school's first official year with a PTO. We had no budget and pretty much flew by the seat of our pants on programs and things the principal/teachers said they wanted. Other than membership donations and our fall festival in early Nov., we had no funds. Our school year runs early Aug. to mid May. By January, our treasurer was getting a little worried that we'd be struggling again at the beginning of next year with all the programs we had planned so she did a little searching. She approached the PTO members with the idea of holding back 10% of our gross earnings to kick off the new year. Everyone agreed to this since at the time we had made about $5000. In the end, we discovered that we had raised a total of $11,000 (way more than I'd thought) and conveniently, (mayber I should give our treasurer more credit here [img]smile.gif[/img] ) we have about $1400 left over to start next year. This really worked for us especially since we want to pre-order t-shirts for our open house we hold just before school starts.

That being said, we are planning a 2nd big fundraiser for next year in the spring and several family nights that we couldn't offer this year. We have already planned where that money would go...immediately, not the following year.

My Question is how do you get so much money and how many students in your school? We made about $8000.00 last year and yes it is all gone and still didn't get the wood chip out of the play ground.
