Heck--if you stuff is squared away, have her on the audit committee..everyone hates to do that and you could kill two birds with one stone. That'll teach her ...

I agree, let her see them in a controlled meeting with officers and the principal present.

It sounds like she's just looking for a fight. If you cut her off at the pass, she has nothing to go on.

My group has an active member causing similar trouble. She thrives on drama. She either exploits existing issues or creates them for her own personal enjoyment. We tolerate her because the school year is almost over and her damage is minimal. Mostly, she's lost the respect of the PTO and the administration and is running out of ways to cause trouble.

I would do the same thing. Let her see them. if i was that member, i would feel i had the right to see it. if you do, and have nothing to hide, the egg is on her face. i'd even have the principal there as a mediator to help with any problems if they come about. i come from a school that only has 120 students from grade 1-6. it is a shame that such little money has to cause such grief.

I'd let her see anything she wants to. Schedule a meeting with the parent, the treasurer, the president - and invite anyone else who would like to come. There shouldn't be any hesitation on the board's part, regardless of her motives. If you're doing things properly, have good documentation, are balanced and reconciled each month, follow standard financial controls then you should be proud to show off "the books". It's the right of any member to see the details. What's the line from Shakespeare? "Me thinks thou protest too much" - in other words, it seems like you have something to hide if you are not forthcoming.

This parent is requesting because we had a very successful fund raiser, and the parent is VERY disgruntled about being replaced by other officers as well. There is a LONG story behind all of this, but the bottom line is that they are trying to break up the group, or accuse one of us of filtering money so the group dissolves somehow. Sad, but true. We are not a 501 C either. We are a VERY small school with a VERY small group.. and the monies that are have been raised have been WAAAAAYYYY under 1000.00 from year to year.
ThankS SOOOO much for your help

If you are a 501c3 then you are required to have your books open to public inspection this includes your yearly 990, most parents really could care less about it. I am not sure about bank statements and the check book but it would include a monthly financial report. Why is this parent suddenly asking to see them? If you aren't 501 I don't know if there are requirements but if your group is open to all parents you may consider doing so, you dont want to be accused of hiding info.Maybe someone else can add to this...this is what I know.
