Sometimes I see things on here just in the nick of time. We too just passed out our nomination forms and we don't have any "openings" for the next year's board but don't want to be a clique so we are inviting everyone to step up if they'd like. I never thought that someone would question my integrity by me having access to the nomination forms.
Now I will let the secretary keep them and the Principal review them so we have no suspect issues. Phew....I almost blew a chance to have all this good income for next year .
You should have a nominating commitee. In our case it is only one person, some groups have several people on the committe. This person or persons should not be board members sd they should be neutral.
In our case the nominations are put in a box and our nomination person collects them. She then phones each nominated person to inform them that they have been nominated and to ask them if they accept or decline the nomination. At the following PTO meeting she reports to everyone as to who has been nominated and whether or not they accept or decline. For the meeting after that she puts together the ballots and holds the election if one is needed. The principal tallys the votes with the nomination person and they declare the winners. Our principal then holds on to all the votes in his office for 24 hours and informs everyone that they can come to his office and examine the vote if they want to.
I have a question. And it may seem a little silly but here goes. Our PTO pres. announced that nominations for next years officers were being accepted until our next meeting in April. Then, she handed out a small nomination form with the positions on it. so far so good. But then she asked that they be placed in a box at the front office. Which was fine, since it was taped shut. But we just realized, that the slips of paper are being taken out and kept by one of the officers. Is this ok to do? We kind of thought it seems a bit shady? Or is that ok. We are unsure of why that this officer is taking them pout and holding onto them. But maybe, we just are overreacting. Any opinions? Thanks!!!!!
