Old Board/Principal woes

Old Board/Principal woes was created by vicdisco
As the new president this year for our PTO, I have had nothing but drama. It all started when it was the third week of school and we still had not received all of the past PTO's books. In fact I could find no records in the files since 1999. The last board was the same group for the past 4 years. After many, many attempts to retrieve ANY information, I told one of them that their record keeping was lousy. Well, that did it the gossip curcuit started and it hasn't stopped. On top of that the principal (who is close personal friends with the last board) won't do anything to stop them. I now feel nausea just going into the school. I quit my job last year to volunteer full time for this school, and they asked me to be president for this year, now they are pulling a Judas on me. I feel they set my board up for failure at every turn. I have had my co-prez quit, due to harrassment at work (she is a teacher) and the vp quit due to the principal getting in her face. We were suppose to have our annual Carnival this October and without the main person, the vp who had done one before there is no way I can pull it off. With some wonderful help that came to my rescue we decided that we could do it in December giving us plenty of time. The OLD board got wind of the date change, became more enraged, surrounded my volunteer and told her that they would do it if we didn't in October. The principal calls me on the phone and tells me the news. He had already OKed the date change the day before. I feel he is undermining all of our goals and that the old board has no business telling us how to run our schedule. These women are notorious gossips and back stabbers, I was duly warned last year, but had no problems with them until I questioned their bookkeeping practices. I am drained of all energy I once had, and I feel like I should follow suit and quit like everyone else. But if I don't have solid support from the principal I can't see how it will ever work.
