pres on a power trip?

I would start by getting out your bylaws and giving a copy to everyone. Go over what is expected of each of you and take that moment to aim for a fresh start. Secondly, try not to sink to this person's level by talking behind other's backs unless it is to defend your actions and people will see what's going on. Then, try to be polite and keep your distance from this person who seems very difficult to get along with. Most of us have delt with this type of member at one point or another. Finally, find someone else for the position next year. Keep in mind, this can still be a productive year, just maybe not as improved as you would like it.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

Hello everyone! This is my first posting and i am really excited about all i have learned just by reading what wisdom you have to offer on here. My situation is this: I am a new VP on our board and am having some conflict with our pres. She is a past vp but was only used as a person to do errands for our past board. Now she seems to be trying to assert her "authority" as she has said and is not very kind or tactful about it. I am so full of ideas and energy for our org. and she seems to be offended by my eagerness to put ideas into action. She has gone to other board members and told them that i have said things in a rude or controlling manner which has been untrue. i realize that the only way we can accomplish our goals is to work TOGETHER! I held our checkbook for a short while, which she gave to me, so that we could use it to purchase needed items. She placed a call to our treas. and indicated that if i did not give it to her by a certain date, it would be "ugly". All members of our board knew that i had the book and were in agreement with that. We all agree that she is rigid and needs to be more focused on what needs to be done in our group and not on small things such as who has the checkbook. Anyway, i could go on and on, but i'd rather have any advice from you guys on how to handle a pres on a power trip.
