OMGosh yes. We had 2 meetings after elections in June (one was a clean up day for the PTO room) then we have a board meeting a month and this month (August) I will meet independently with the hospitality committee and we will also have a workday on the 31st to make welcome back signs, teachers welcome gifts (chocolate lollipop hearts with a teacher's poem) and ice cream "scoops" for our membership drive (become a member and help fill the cone with a round paper scoop. The class (K, 1st, 2d)with the most scoops in announced at our Ice Cream Social on September 20th and they win an free ice cream at lunch courtesy of the PTO.
We also have continued with our CiCi's pizza night over the summer (made 110 bucks - not bad) and I send out routine emails to our data base. It is a lot of work but I think it is important. I also wrote personal PTO Thank You notes to each one of the committee chairs at the end of school thanking them for their support. If you'd like copies of some of the stuff let me know...at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.na
We are meeting at a restaurant tonight for a quick informal meeting to just touch base and make sure we are all on the same page before school starts on the 25th (too soon!) I have a bunch of stuff from here that I want to share with them!
Our meeting in June is to conclude the year's business and then we had over the new positions to those people.
We just had a July meeting (a first) at my house (I'm the new president) and I cooked dinner for our board members. It was so nice an relaxed. Granted not everyone showed, but we calendared every one of our events for the upcoming year. We really got through a lot of stuff. So our next meeting which will be the end of Aug. we can concentrate on our budget more and get that done.
Hope this helps,
Holly

The only month we don't meet is December. Our June meeting is basically for outgoing officers to hand turn over the reins to the incoming officers. Our July meeting is where we set our budget and activities for the upcoming year.
I helped start the PTO at the pre-k here. Typically pre-k starts about three weeks after regular schools here. Then they have meeting to elect new officers because the majority of the kids there are only there for a year. If you have a board already in place then go for it. It does make things alot easier if you can get together with you board and get a few things planned.
I have actually been with a team tat ddin't and one that did have a pre-board meeting and I have to tell ya the year sure went by much better the year we were able to get together before our first meeting! First, there were no surprises! It was totally a "if I knew then what I know now" about the President I don't think I would have been as willing to stay on.
I would see if you can have two meetings, one with the board and one with the school's principal...might as well ALL be on the same paper and working order!!!
