Our board consists of President, 1st VP/Membership Chair, 2nd VP/Cultural Enrichment Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary. Every board position is a two-year term, not to exceed two terms.
To make sure that there is continuous coverage and to make sure the board runs smoothly every year, we've alternated the terms. This year, elections will be held only for the 1st VP and Treasurer. So next year, while the 1st VP and Treasurer are in their first year, elections will be held for President, 2nd VP, and Secretary.
Before you panic, I would talk with the person that is interested in being Co-President and ask them if they have some friends that they might talk to about filling the open positions.
Our school was in a similar situation when NO ONE stepped up for any board position five years ago. With one month left in the school year, I decided to step up as a Co-President. Then, I talked with some of my friends and parents that I saw around the school building often; basically, I talked them into working with me.
It couldn't have turned out any better! We had a great bunch of people that all like each other and were serving on the parent group board for the right reasons! Good luck!
We started a rotation of officers positions after that, so we would never have zero officers left to rollover the next year (quick fix in the bylaws).
We are holding our nominations right now and so far only one person has nominated themself for a co-president position, the rest of the board is stepping down after a 2 year term limit and we haven't had anyone else step up or accept a nomination - Does anyone know what we would do in a situation if there is only one board member - is it even possible? We have already extended the nominations for three weeks but we have to vote in April. Please help!
