We do a geranium sale every spring and net around a $1000. We purchase the geraniums at wholesale from a local nursery and since we are a parochial school, we sell them to the whole parish after masses one weekend.
Last year we cautiously added a small number of Boston ferns. They sold out quickly, and we already have people demanding that we do it again. The markup wasn't as big for the ferns, but we felt that it was something different to make people stop and look. Think of all the people that hang ferns on their porches in the summer.
We do a Mother's day plant sale every year. We work with a local nursery. We get smaller potted plants wrapped in foil and we sell them for $1.75 each. Each class has a time slot where they can come and buy plants for Mom, Grandma, Aunt...etc. We also allow parents to come in at any time and buy whatever they would like as well. We get these plants on consignment so we pay for only the plants we sell and return what we don't sell.
Have any of you had success with a spring plant/flower sales? We have had a couple parents suggest that as a fund-raiser because they buy plants (annuals) every year so why not spend the money and help the school. I's love to hear of any success stories. Thanks!
