I want to caution you though, not to have any preconceived ideas about your new principal. Your new principal may come in with open arms for your group, and why not? You've got a great group with great district support. Remember to keep an open mind about someone you know nothing about yet...
I just wanted to share with everyone what has been going on with our group. We currently have a interim principal til July 1st when a new principal comes in. we are not sure who is coming in but rumors worry us that parent involvement will not be a priority.It was a big concern of mine and the group that how could we plan next years schedule/fundraisers with no backing except among ourselves. Example we sign a catalog sale for september, principal may come in and say no. Cancelling the contract so close to it may hold us liable. We also were faced with planning any free family fun nights, no fundraisers no money...no events.
After a uproar at our last meeting where I lost it and said I would not sign anything without some support. Our district has agreed for us to do our whole schedule , fundraisers, events, etc. Everything will be listed from all contracts signed to all tenative dates of events in a agreement. This agreement is going to be signed by the new superintendent, asst superintendent, temp principal and our officers. That way no matter who is named principal can not touch us for one year. It protects from any changes and gives us one year to sell ourselves to the new principal.
If anyone is looking at new administration and are concerned that involvement is not a major issue then consider trying to convince your district to back you. This agreement in writing has given our group peace of mind. We know that it is now up to us to show how important parent involvement can be.
