Well who wouldn't be burnt out! You are not superwoman, nor should you have to act like one. I am not the prez., but our PTO has found it easier to get people to volunteer for chairing committees when (if possible) two people chair a committee.
Just my opinion, but maybe your other board members know that you will volunteer to chair the committees if they don't speak up and volunteer. Maybe tell them that you will no longer be chairing everything and that maybe if no one volunteers, your group may have to start considering cancelling some of these events. That threat worked in our school, because the people there would really hate to see that happen and now there has always been someone that steps up to the plate...as we are all there for the benefit of the kids.
I'm sure you already do, but when you are asking the members to chair a committee, remind them they will always have your support (not that you will do EVERYTHING for them)...so they don't feel they have no one to turn to if they need some advice, etc.
I am a new PTO Prez this year. It's been very time consuming and somewhat stressful, to say the least. Volunteer #'s are up and that has helped out A LOT. Our main events are done and over for this year and I am exhausted!!! I've pretty much decided not to run again next year because of the time consumption. I feel like all my time and energy go into doing these things and I don't get to enjoy them with my kids. I've read other posts about different members chairing committees and was just wondering how that works out. We have a dedicated few who jump in and help with everything but, when you mention being "responsible" for something, it's out of the question. I think it would be great to hand out some of the responsibilty for these events to others, if they'll take it. Maybe then, more parents would be interested in serving on the board. Instead it's like pulling teeth to get anyone. Oh, who am I kidding? ha ha I love this school, staff, volunteers and principal, they have all been very supportive. In a way I hate to give it up. It gets inside you, doesn't it?? Some would take this as whining and complaining, I guess. I would love to hear from other Presidents and see how much you are responsible for in your PTO and what is delegated to others. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
