Thank you for your input. I have tried to calm down a little, just so we aren't going toe to toe with every breath. It has worked and given us some breathing space, at least I feel a little less tension. Prayer has helped too:) I have told her (continually) to submit their plan. Can't do anything without a plan. Thanks for all your input. This forum is so valuable:)

Sandy,
No matter what the committee is called, they still just present their recommendations to the whole organization for approval. So it shouldn't matter if one individual is being stubborn, the group decides what to spend funds on.
We have a budget & finance committee that decides how much to allot each committee for their yearly budget.
Ways & means in our group is there to pick, organize & run the different fundraisers.
Budget & finance committee prepares the budget to meet the needs of the school. They then present it to the executive board for approval, then the general membership for a vote.
Our budget & finance committee is made up of the group president, treasurer, ways & means chair
As seams to be the answer to many questions posted here I would have to say "The answer is in your by laws" lol.
We are also a brand new PTO and the way the wording in our bylaws is states basicly that committees are there to make sugestions and gather information but the Board of Directors has final say on items spicificly addressed in our Mission statement.
For items not addressed in the Mission Statement we must get membership aproval.
For the record. Our PTO is a little difrent from most others in that we are affiliated with a Virtual Charter school that operates in 10 difrent states. We actualy hired a Corperate Lawyer to aid us in writing our Articles of Incorperation and By Laws, which ended up being 11 pages long!!! (that is what happens when a Lawyer gets involved with a PTO lol)

We are a brand new school, brand new PTO. We are starting from scratch. We decided to have a Ways and Means Committee. In our by-laws it clearly states that "Any committees may be created or revised by the Executive Committee as may be required to promote the objectives and interests of the organization." It is our intention that the ways and means committee will bring suggestions to the executive board for ways to best use our funds for our children. Maybe we should have named it something else. There is a lady on this committee that is bound and determined to write the PTO's budget and tell us where we have the right to spend the funds. After several attempts to clarify the committees role, she still insists on doing it her way. I am afraid that need maybe some more input on what other ways and means roles are. I am ready to send her a letter to her explaining this. Many people are feeling the same way. What is the best way to handle this?
