Have a pumpkin decorating contest, if real pumpkins, no carvings, just painted, things poked in them, colored, etc. If you can't do real one, send home paper bags and have them stuff them with newpaper, paint, decorate, etc. Then fix up a pumpkin patch in the school and set everyones in there. This is neat for decorations in the school and all to see.
For Halloween our PTO does a fun, non-fundraising, inexpensive event for our students. Last year we sent home paper plates and had the students decorate them as pumpkins and then awarded prizes in several areas, everyone who participated got a sucker or something (I can't remember exactly, oh that's bad!)
So I'm trying to think of something different to do this year, ya know mix it up a bit!!! I thought about sending home paper lunch sacks for a monster decorating contest but thought those might be hard to display for judging. Last year the teachers hung up the entries for this class in their rooms.
Throw out any ideas you might have. Remember, this goes home to do with family. Needs to be fairly inexpensive, for grades P-6.
