We did this last year and we had it around Dr. Suess's birthday. THe art teacher made us a large worm head and the body was made out of circles which was hung in the hallway by the office and extended up the stairs in the upstairs hallway. Every child who read an hour got their name on a circle. For every hour they read. Each grade got a different color and teachers got involved too. We started this in March and we were still hanging circles 2 weeks before school got out in June(I wouldn't recommend that,it's too much). We did set a deadline for turning in money, but the kids kept reading. We only made about $200 because we didn't want to discourage anyone from reading if parents didn't want to sponsor. With that money we bought each child who read a book from the book fair, so we broke about even. We are starting this years readathon next week and we are definitely setting a deadline for reading. It was fun!
Here it is...
OUr first Sacajawea Elementary Read a thon is on its way! every 30 minutes you read is a scoop closer to winning your class an ice cream party, earning money for our PTO general fund, and turning the principal into an ice cream sundae.
Each person tries ot find four sponsers to sponser $1.00 for each hour of reading.
Use attached pledge sheet to keep track of your time.
The class reading the most minuteswill win a ice cream party. THe top five readers will get to help "make" Mr. B a sundae.
I found a list of rules on the internet that are very funny and seem ot cover everything!
If I left anything out let me know.
we do a read a thon where the student finds four people to sponser them $1.00 per hour. THey read a half hour a day for 12 days.. so at the end of the read a thon sponsers only have to come up with $6.00 . THat is $24.00 per kid. if you multiply that by 300 kids that is about $7200.00
Just found this post and I was looking for a read a thon to present to my PTO.
Any information would be great...Or Pledge fliers etc...
