We held a bake sale last year, we actually held it on Election Day since our school is used as a voting location. I highly recommend getting donations from local bakeries for it if you can. It was helpful for us to be able to say where it was from because they already knew that they loved it! We heard a lot of "ooooo, I love their donuts/cookies/bread!" Also, we had a pot of coffee and a big urn of hot chocolate going the whole time and gave it away free with purchase. The smell tended to entice people. Good luck!
When we do our bake sale during our spring carnival we use the following basic pricing:
Individual cupcakes and good size cookies=50 cents
smaller cookies we package 3 together=50 cents
Fancy cookies(decorated) depending on size=50 cents for 1, $1 for 3, $2.50 for 6.
Small loaves of breads=$3
Large loaves=$5
Pies(avg size, apple, cherry..the common fillings)=$6
Large pies or uncommon fillings or cream pies=$7-$8
Cakes(depending on size and the elaborateness of decoration or flavor)=$7-$12
Anything else we kind of take into consideration the unusualness of the item, how hard it is to make, etc. and kind of figure out what we think people would be willing to pay for the item. For example: one year a father brought in homemade deer jerky in little ziploc bags-very unusual. We priced it at a $1 a bag and it sold like hotcakes!
Hope this helps you a little at least. Happy selling!!
You may consider asking local grocery stores for help getting the supplies. Our neighborhood stores hand out gift certificates for every fundraiser as long as we have a letter on school letter head.
We charge 50 cents each for cupcakes and big brownies. Cookies are two for 50 cents. If we have something unusual we just make a quick decision. We give away little cups of milk for free.
Hello.
Our first "get some start-up cash quick" sale, otherwise known as a bake sale is coming up in a couple of weeks. I am a first time chairperson and I have a question. How do you know what to charge for the baked goods? I asked the members of our PTC board and they said to "wing it". Well, that doesn't really help me.
Any suggestions/guidelines someone could contribute would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
