Last year I purchased an item from my husband for our carnival. Paid him with a check and he gave me a detailed receipt. We needed the itme and he offered the best price.
The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
Right, spouse is in the Avon business. Thanks for the comments. I'm looking forward to more input but I'll pass on your thoughts to the President or the organization.
I thought I might obtain everyone's thoughts on this. Our organization wants to do three nice gift baskets to give away at the Christmas Meeting. Mainly teachers attend the meeting and not very many parents. In fact, last night's meeting saw 47 teachers and 5 parents (only two of whom are members). So, these gift baskets will more than likely go to a teacher. The baskets are very nice and full of Avon bubble bath, lotions, candles, etc. However, the president's spouse (who is the Past President) made the baskets. The organization would like to buy the baskets for $15 each which would be a total of $45. Considering the organization's budget is $10,000 (so $45 certainly wouldn't "dent" the budget) and there are no ethical issues between the president and past president, do you think it is a conflict of interest for the president to buy the baskets from the past president/spouse? These two are totally honest and no one would even think that they were trying to make money from the organization. In fact, other businesses around town would charge upward of $75 under the same concept and this is only a one-time thing for Christmas. What are your thoughts? Go ahead and buy the baskets or not? Thanks!
